Project Overview
Idemia develops identity, biometric, and digital-security solutions for governments, financial institutions, and enterprises.
During a three-month consulting assignment, I modernized the documentation of an OT-Morpho security application used in international border-control projects.
The objective was to transform an obsolete and fragmented FrameMaker corpus into a clear, consolidated, and adaptable Microsoft Word guide that project teams could customize for local deployments.
Context
The original documentation was distributed across numerous FrameMaker files and had become obsolete, overly detailed, inconsistent, and difficult to maintain.
International project teams needed to adapt the documentation to local implementations, but the existing structure and authoring environment made this process unnecessarily complex.
The mission therefore went beyond a simple format conversion. It required reconstructing the product documentation from fragmented sources, reassessing the relevance of the existing content, and producing a reusable guide that could support future project deployments.
Key Deliverables
Content Recovery & Documentation Restructuring
I recovered and consolidated information from multiple FrameMaker sources to rebuild a coherent product documentation set.
The work included:
- identifying the relevant user information across fragmented files;
- removing obsolete, duplicated, or project-specific content;
- defining a unified structure for the complete guide;
- reorganizing the information around user tasks and implementation needs;
- recovering and updating screenshots and diagrams;
- preparing a format that project teams could maintain and customize independently.
The target format was Microsoft Word, selected to provide international implementation teams with an accessible and flexible authoring environment.
Editorial Modernization & Product Validation
I conducted a complete editorial review of the reconstructed content to improve clarity, consistency, and usability.
Rather than relying only on the legacy documentation, I learned and used the application to verify procedures, question unclear information, and identify gaps between the existing content and the actual product behavior.
I rewrote and simplified large sections, clarified workflows and instructions, and created new screenshots using realistic data to better reflect operational use cases.
The resulting documentation provided project teams with a more reliable foundation for adapting the product guide to each local deployment.
My Role
I managed the transformation from fragmented legacy sources to a consolidated and reusable project document, combining content analysis, information restructuring, technical writing, application testing, migration, and visual updates.
The mission relied on my ability to work with both older authoring environments and complex product content, while taking enough distance from the existing documentation to rethink it from the users' and implementation teams' perspective.
