Project Overview
3DVIA, a Dassault Systèmes brand, provides 3D design, planning, and visualization solutions for professional and consumer applications.
During an eight-month consulting assignment, I worked on the documentation of the HomeByMe for Kitchen Retailers application suite, designed for professional kitchen and furniture designers.
The mission was carried out in two successive phases: first, the creation of a complete tutorial covering the end-to-end design of a kitchen cabinet; then, the migration and modernization of legacy Word and HTML documentation into a Docusaurus-based docs-as-code environment.
Context
The application suite combined several tools used at different stages of the kitchen-design process: geometry creation, furniture assembly, database management, and customer-facing 3D planning.
A large part of the product knowledge was distributed across existing Word and HTML content, internal expertise, and the applications themselves. The documentation therefore had to be understood and reorganized as a complete user journey rather than as a collection of isolated features.
The project also marked a transition toward a modern documentation platform and collaborative Markdown-based workflows.
Key Deliverables
End-to-End Tutorial & User Documentation
In the first phase, I created the first complete tutorial explaining how to design a kitchen base cabinet from start to finish.
To produce this guide, I collected information from multiple written and oral sources and worked directly with the complete 3DVIA application suite. I reproduced the real workflow followed by professional users, from geometry creation and component assembly to database integration and use in the final 3D planner.
The tutorial combined:
- step-by-step procedures;
- screenshots and visual explanations;
- product concepts and prerequisites;
- links between the different applications;
- a realistic professional use case.
This cross-application approach helped users understand not only the individual tools, but also how they worked together within a complete kitchen-design process.
Documentation Migration & Modernization
In the second phase, I led the migration of legacy Word and HTML documentation to Docusaurus 1 and Markdown.
The work included:
- defining the new documentation structure;
- converting and restructuring existing content;
- rewriting unclear or inconsistent sections;
- harmonizing terminology and editorial style;
- updating screenshots and diagrams;
- advising contributors on Markdown syntax and technical-writing practices;
- supporting collaboration through Git branches and shared repositories.
I also reviewed part of the OpenAPI documentation during the assignment.
My Role
I combined product discovery, user-centered documentation, tutorial design, content migration, editorial review, and docs-as-code implementation.
The project required me to quickly understand a complex suite of interconnected applications and adopt the perspective of professional users performing a complete business workflow.
It was also my first in-depth Docusaurus project and established the framework as my preferred platform for documentation websites.
