🧩 Project Overview

My mission at Idemia (formerly OT-Morpho) focused on overhauling the documentation for a suite of border control applications used by airport police and international security teams. These biometric terminals are deployed globally to support identity verification and secure border management.

Migrating from FrameMaker to Word

The original documentation –spread across numerous FrameMaker files– was overly detailed, inconsistent, and difficult to maintain. Users abroad, tasked with customizing the application to local requirements, needed a format they could easily update. At the client’s request, I led the migration to Microsoft Word, a more accessible and flexible authoring tool for non-specialists.

This involved:

  • Recovering and consolidating fragmented content from multiple FrameMaker sources.
  • Extracting and reworking screenshots and diagrams.
  • Designing a unified structure for a single, comprehensive Word document.
  • Ensuring the new format supported future updates by implementation teams.

Rewriting for Clarity and Usability

Beyond migration, I conducted a deep editorial review of the legacy content:

  • Identified and removed redundant or irrelevant information.
  • Rewrote large sections to improve clarity, flow, and instructional value.
  • Created new screenshots using realistic data to reflect actual use cases.
  • Learned the application quickly to validate procedures and ensure accuracy.

The result was a streamlined, user-focused guide tailored to professionals abroad –reducing the adaptation workload for project teams and improving onboarding efficiency.

👩‍💻 My Role

As a seasoned consultant and Senior Technical Writer, I was entrusted with the complete overhaul of documentation for Idemia’s biometric border control applications. The original content –fragmented across numerous FrameMaker files– was dense, redundant, and difficult to maintain. I led the transformation by migrating the documentation into Microsoft Word, a format better suited for international implementation teams who needed to customize and update the content independently.

This mission required both editorial precision and technical agility. I quickly learned the application suite to validate procedures, restructured the documentation for clarity, and rewrote large sections to improve usability. I also created new screenshots using realistic data to reflect actual workflows. My work significantly reduced the adaptation effort for project teams abroad and helped streamline the deployment of Idemia’s border control solutions.
