Project Overview
Acklio was a French telecommunications and IoT company that pioneered and contributed to the creation of SCHC, the standard for connecting constrained LPWAN networks with IP-based systems.
During several successive consulting phases, I created Acklio's first structured documentation portal and subsequently maintained and expanded it as part of the company's Developer Program.
The documentation addressed a highly technical audience and covered protocol fundamentals, product capabilities, device integrations, and practical use cases across SCHC, LPWAN, LoRaWAN, and IP environments.
Context
Acklio's technical knowledge was distributed across Confluence, GitLab repositories, internal specifications, product sources, and contributions from R&D.
The challenge was to understand an unfamiliar and highly specialized telecommunications environment, reconcile these heterogeneous sources, and transform them into precise and accessible documentation for expert users.
The documentation also had to establish the conceptual foundations of SCHC before presenting Acklio's products and showing how they could be implemented in concrete IoT scenarios.
Key Deliverables
Documentation Architecture & Developer Content
I conducted an intensive onboarding process combining internal-source analysis, research into telecommunications standards, software exploration, and regular exchanges with R&D.
I then designed the documentation architecture around three complementary pillars:
- protocol and technology fundamentals;
- Acklio product features and implementation guidance;
- practical use cases and device-integration scenarios.
This structure allowed readers to move progressively from the principles of SCHC and LPWAN communication to product configuration and real-world implementation.
To make abstract concepts, architectures, message exchanges, and workflows easier to understand, I created more than 100 original technical diagrams using Excalidraw.
Documentation Portal & Continuous Updates
I proposed and implemented Docusaurus as the foundation for Acklio's first structured documentation portal, integrated into its Developer Program.
The Markdown and GitLab-based docs-as-code workflow enabled documentation to be managed alongside technical sources, with traceable branches, reviews, and contributions.
During several subsequent update phases, I expanded and revised the portal to reflect:
- new product releases and capabilities;
- evolving technical sources;
- additional devices and integrations;
- new developer use cases;
- feedback and validation from R&D.
This iterative approach transformed the initial documentation project into a maintainable developer resource capable of evolving with the product.
My Role
I managed the documentation process from knowledge acquisition and architecture design to writing, visual explanation, portal implementation, and successive release updates.
The mission required me to rapidly assimilate complex telecommunications concepts and translate them into structured, accurate, and didactic content without oversimplifying material intended for expert readers.
