Images generated by Copilot are generally provided under the Microsoft Designer Content License Agreement. This license allows personal, non-commercial use by default.

Microsoft Designer / Bing Image Creator
Response generated by Copilot
Image generated via Image Creator from Designer: Florence Venisse’s LinkedIn banner.
Images generated through Image Creator in Microsoft Designer (formerly Bing Image Creator) can be used for personal purposes, but commercial use is more nuanced.
Here’s what you need to know:
Personal Use
- You can use images for non-commercial projects: posters, cards, social media posts, etc.
- There’s no limit to how many images you can generate for free.
Commercial Use
- The terms of use updated in November 2023 do not explicitly prohibit commercial use.
- However, Microsoft recommends compliance with its Code of Conduct and applicable laws, and advises caution if using images commercially.
- It’s important to distinguish between:
- Image Creator from Designer – commercial use is not clearly restricted.
- Designer for Web Image Generator – strictly personal use.
See the official terms of use for more details.

Mascot Disclaimer
A cute green dinosaur wearing a white t-shirt labeled “AI” appears as a mascot throughout this website. Its appearance may vary depending on the image generation tool used –alphabetically: ChatGPT, Copilot, Google AI, or Image Creator from Designer.
The mascot symbolizes a blend of ancient times (represented by the dinosaur) and modern times (the AI t-shirt). It also reflects the balance between seniority (my role as a Senior Technical Writer) and next-gen innovation (learning through AI).
This dinosaur is a respectful and appreciative nod to my favorite static site generator, Docusaurus. There is no intention to plagiarize its logo –the mascot’s look is intentionally different in each image to avoid replication or confusion.
Legal and ethical notes by Copilot
- Non-commercial use – Since the site isn’t monetized, and the images are used decoratively and symbolically, your use likely falls within fair use guidelines and complies with the respective generators' content policies.
- Distinct imagery – By varying the mascot and stating the tribute clearly, you're making a good-faith effort to avoid trademark infringement or brand confusion –especially since Docusaurus’s logo is not being copied directly.
- Transparency – Including the disclaimer helps establish respectful acknowledgment, which is excellent practice.
